I actually haven’t tried belly dancing but my mom has already been dancing for several years now. She enrolled in an exclusive belly dancing class in their place. I was enticed when I saw her dressed in elegantly beautiful belly dancing costumes and accessories. I believe that belly dancing can help in boosting my self- confidence and will help me in losing my weight too. I also believe that belly dancing empowers today’s women and young girls by helping them to fall in love with their bodies and to dispel those myth and illusion that having some extra fats is a reason for you not to be loved. Working on yourself mentally can only go so far. You can talk yourself up in your head, but true changes happen in the body on a wholistic level, and I know that belly dancing can do that.
By training on each part of our body, Belly Dancing enables us to fall in love with each part individually, then the body as a whole. We learn to move parts of the body that are not normally used in a very feminine way like the chest area in chest movements, the hips in all lower body movements, the buttocks in shimmies. the arms and hands in graceful upper body movements, the face and eyes to add story and expression and the shoulders to add flavor and spice.
As belly dancing moves our connection systematically from one part of the body to another, the whole of our body becomes known and with time, it is truly enjoyed. Our whole body becomes our friend and we will definitely fall in love with all of it.Unlike most other dance forms, this dance is truly every woman’s dance, as it helps in showing up every woman’s femininity, beauty and grace.
